Fibreglass hull thickness. discussion in 'fiberglass and composite boat building' started by reddeer04, nov 5, 2016. joined: nov 2016 posts: 3 i changed the rollars i noticed that one had broken off causeing the rollar holder to slightly rub on the bottom of the boat on the fibreglass it has rubbed a area about 12mm sqaure and about 1mm thick.. Prior to the development of fiberglass construction techniques, boats were built of wood, steel, and other materials, by assembling pieces and parts into a structure which was then sheathed with a hull. with fiberglass boat building, however, the major components of the boat – the hull, deck, liner, and large parts like consoles—are molded. With regards to hull strength then….g3 is the clear winner as the entire hull bottom is double plated and as lund considers double plating a lund advantage…they are only doing half the job on the bottom hull. side thickness for the g3 is 27% thicker and therefore it follows stronger..
