T he hervey bay sailing club was formed in 1968 when a group of sailors who wanted to sail found they didn't have a club to sail with.. the club house for the first 6 seasons was a tent erected on the beach on sundays and the club soon grew in popularity. in 1974 plans were passed by the local council for a club house to be built on the land at the present site which was at the time a lease. The annual bay to bay trailable yacht race is an annual sailing event for monohull and multihull trailable yachts conducted by the hervey bay sailing club on the first weekend in may each year through the great sandy marine park and past the great sandy national park and the world heritage listed fraser island..
